National Make a Difference Day Community Meal

A;zheimer's support group to meet Wednesday

The Alzheimer's Support Group meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. at Windsor Manor. The October meeting will take place tomorrow, Oct. 18. The support group is led by Sharon Carpenter who has a loved one with this disease. Sharon offers encouragement and education on the disease. For questions please contact Sharon at 319-393-4749.

National Make a Difference Day: Meal to be served Oct. 23

Saturday, Oct. 23, is National Make a Difference Day, a day to honor the significance of volunteers in communities throughout the country. To mark the occasion, the Benton County Volunteer Program is planning a community meal, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day, at the Vinton Presbyterian Church. The menu will include turkey and dressing, potatoes and gravy, vegetable and dessert.

Historicial Society meal: Center Point to hear from Honor Flight vets Oct. 26

The Center Point Historical Society Harvest Potluck will take place Tuesday, Oct. 26. This year's program is "Honoring Veterans" featuring Washington D.C. honor flights.  All Center Point-Urbana area veterans and their families are especially invited to attend and share their stories.  Supper begins at 6 p.m., with the program scheduled to start around 7 p.

Street Drugs 101: Detective Mark Phippen to discuss ways to identify problems

The Benton County Above the Influence Coalition is sponsoring a session called "Street Drugs 101." Participants will hear from Mark Phippen of the Benton County Sheriff's Office on how street drugs are used currently, where they may be hiding and how to identify them if you see them. He will also discuss some ways to reduce the access to and effects of drugs on the community.
